Jasper Brinkley comes back to the Vikings

After a year in Arizona, Jasper Brinkely is coming back to Minnesota.

The former Vikings middle linebacker is coming back to the team on a one year deal, according to Mike Garafolo.

Brinkley was a fifth round pick for the team back in 2009, and was the team's starter in 2012. The Vikings let him walk as a free agent after the season though because he was unsuccessful in Leslie Fraizer's system.

With Leslie Fraizer out of Minnesota though, it makes sense for the team to bring back Brinkley as a depth signing.

Brinkley struggles in coverage, but he is an adequate run defender who should compete for a starting job in training camp. Brinkley would also be a solid backup option if the Vikings let one of their younger players start out of training camp.

The terms of Brinkley's deal were not immediately available.

With the signing of Everson Griffen earlier in the day, the Vikings have gotten help at two key positions on their defense. The team will likely still be looking for a cornerback and a defensive tackle when free agency opens on Tuesday.
