Toby Gerhart is Officially Gone

In the famous words of one Michael Scott: Goodbye Toby!

In this situation, that phrase has a little more sadness tinged to it, as running back Toby Gerhart officially left the Vikings through free agency today, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Gerhart received a three-year deal worth $10.5 million with $4.5 million guaranteed according to multiple sources.

Gerhart served an Adrian Peterson's backup for four years after being drafted in the second round of the 20010 NFL draft, a largely thankless role that he performed very well in.

But Gerhart, a Heisman trophy runner-up in college, likely harbored aspirations of being an NFL starter throughout his tenure with the Vikings.

Gerhart enters Jacksonville as the presumed starter, and may serve as the team's replacement for Maurice Jones-Drew, who is currently a free agent.

After four years in another back's shadow, this deal appears to be Gerhart's chance to lead the way.
