Vikings Sign Captain Munnerlyn

After many hours of waiting, the announcement finally came that the Vikings had signed a veteran (maybe captain?) for their secondary.

After visiting Winter Park yesterday and today, free agent cornerback Captain Munnerlyn has agreed to a contract with the Vikings, as first reported by Ian Rapoport.

Munnerlyn will immediately stabilize the slot cornerback position for the Vikings, after that became a major issue when the team cut Antoine Winfield last offseason.

Munnerlyn received a three-year contract, $11.25 million contract from the Vikings according to Bleacher Report, with $4.45 million guaranteed and $3.3 million in incentives and escalotors.

All in all, it's a very nice pickup for the Vikings at a solid value. According to Munnerlyn, he will be given the opportunity to start on the outside as well when the Vikings are not in nickel.

Munnerlyn was in Winter Park all day with the Vikings, but news remained relatively slow throughout the day. Munnerlyn told reporters afterwards the Vikings were offering a five-year deal originally, but he wanted just three years so he could go out and test the market again when he turned 28.

We are now about 48 hours into free agency, and the Vikings have already made moves to address two of their biggest needs. The next news out of Winter Park will likely revolve around former Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton, who was also on campus for a visit.

Stay tuned, Vikings fans.
