Joe Webb joins the Panthers as a....Quarterback

Former Vikings backup quarterback and wide receiver Joe Webb has landed on his feet.

Webb has been signed by the Carolina Panthers as a backup quarterback, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Webb's signing comes as a bit of a shock, as the last time he played quarterback, he had a rather embarrassing performance in front of a prime-time audience.

After playing poorly in the Vikings playoff loss to the Packers in 2012, Webb was converted to receiver for the 2013 season.

Webb has never been an accurate passer, but his athletic ability intrigued the Vikings enough to keep him around to try to use him differently.

Now, it seems, the Panthers are going to try to change him back. Rapoport tweeted the Panthers think Webb has a similar athletic skill set to Cam Newton, as Webb could serve as a stand-in while Newton recovers from ankle surgery this offseason.

Whether Webb sticks around after that, who knows, but the Panthers could always convert him back to receiver too. That depth chart is looking a little thin in Carolina right now...
